How the New York Point System Works

Points are added to your driving record after a conviction. The DMV counts points from the date of the violation, not the date of conviction.

You must also pay a Driver Responsibility Assessment if you receive 6 or more points within 18 months. This DMV charge is separate from court fines and other fees.
